A funding rate of 0.0644% against a 24-hour gain of just 3.49%—when I put these two figures side by side, $EPIC , I don’t feel they’re describing the same thing.
Binance perpetual funding rate: 0.0644%, settled every 4 hours, with about 210 minutes until the next settlement. Mark price: 0.2678 USDT, current price: 0.2669, and 24-hour trading volume: $22.55 million.
The cost for longs is rising—that much is clear: 0.0644% is charged every 4 hours, so longs are paying. But I’m not yet convinced that longs are crowded. The current price of 0.2669 is still below the mark price of 0.2678, the 24-hour gain is only 3.49%, and trading volume at $22.55 million hasn’t surged. With a high funding rate but the prices so close, I’d rather read this as positions getting more expensive, not as proof that the market is already crowded.
There are about 210 minutes until settlement. If the rate stays at 0.0644% during that time, longs are paying a time cost. These figures don’t yet tell us whether the market has priced in a directional move at this funding rate.
