Over two weeks, 2.72 million $ASTER tokens were bought back, and the team simultaneously burned an equal amount of tokens—effectively using real fee revenue to reduce the circulating supply while also cutting into the team’s allocation. Aster’s disclosed rules say that 99% of daily fees go toward buybacks, with the repurchased tokens distributed to stakers. The mechanism has been in operation since the tokenomics model was upgraded on June 17, 2026. So far, 32.3 million tokens have been burned, bringing the all-time total to 210 million.

Linking buybacks with team burns has a twofold effect: it reduces the circulating supply while shrinking the team’s available allocation. For holders, this mechanism is more verifiable than simply making claims about deflation, since each period can be checked against specific figures. The annualized yields offered for staking also vary considerably: a 26-week lock earns 4.53%, while a 208-week lock brings the rate up to 24.8%, making longer-term staking noticeably more attractive.

It’s worth noting that the project also states that actual returns may vary, as the annualized figures fluctuate with the amount staked and fee revenue. How long buybacks and burns can continue depends on whether the platform can maintain its fee revenue—a factor worth tracking more closely than the burn amount in any single period.
