$XAUT reports $4167.

Choppy.

No rush.

$BTC is at 82386, up a modest 0.36% over 24 hours, and still hasn't broken in either direction.

The US Dollar Index just broke above 102, up 0.22% on the day.

The 10-year Treasury yield is still sitting at 5.28%—not pushing higher, but not turning back either.

Today's intraday range was less than $40; neither bulls nor bears made a move.

Gold generally trended lower last week. It opened this week with a 0.3% rebound, returning to around 4176.

The news was subdued too: expectations for an October rate hike have fallen from around 30% recently to roughly 15%, while the odds of a December hike have instead been priced up to 91.8%.

Here's the interesting part: the odds of a near-term rate hike are falling, while the odds of a hike later on are rising. So investors are holding gold as “insurance for the medium to long term.”

It's not about chasing the rally; it's about building a position gradually.

Bitcoin is also moving sideways, just like gold, with little sense of direction.

The pace of reserve accumulation in the two major offshore dollar stablecoins hasn't changed; there's no sign of an increase in inflows.

When a market like this doesn't break out, it just drifts. Wait for a real breakout before calling the direction.

Above 4220, watch 4280; below 4145, back to 4100. Those are the key round-number levels.
