If you change a lock, you don’t have to renovate the entire house, right?
After reading the @Acurast docs this time, that’s exactly what came to mind. If an AI Agent runs on a schedule every day and its API Key needs changing, do you really have to redeploy the entire task? Just thinking about it sounds like a hassle.
Then I found out the team had already thought of this: you can pass in the API Key through encrypted environment variables. It’s encrypted during deployment and only decrypted when the code runs on the phone’s Processor, so there’s no need to write the Key directly into the script.
Even better, with interval deployments that run repeatedly on a schedule, you can update environment variables between runs. Edit the .env file, then use --update-env-vars to apply the changes, and subsequent runs can use the new Key without redeploying the script. Of course, that doesn’t mean a task that’s already running will switch over immediately.
I really like this kind of thoughtful little feature. Getting an AI Agent running for the first time is exciting, but if you’re going to use it every day, who wants to go through the whole process again just to change a Key?
Change the key, and the house stays the same. Making these little maintenance tasks simpler feels genuinely practical to me.
