Goldman Sachs strategists said narrowing market breadth is raising the risk of a momentum reversal, which could create opportunities in previously overlooked U.S. consumer stocks. According to Sina Finance, a team led by Ben Snyder said leading stocks could fall if momentum reverses, while lagging sectors may catch up. The team identified defensive stocks including Tyson Foods and Kroger for investors concerned about further deterioration in growth prospects and a broader market selloff. These stocks have lower realized share-price volatility and higher free-cash-flow yields than other companies in their sectors. The strategists said market breadth is extremely narrow, risks from holding momentum assets are rising, and market concentration remains near levels seen during the dot-com bubble. They forecast earnings per share for S&P 500 constituents to grow 29% in 2026 and 18% in 2027. They also said that, alongside pressure from interest rates and oil prices, slower AI investment growth would gradually weaken a source of support.
