【Musk is preparing to entrust SpaceX’s future to the next generation of Americans】

Musk wants to give every American child one share of SpaceX, $SPCX . If he really makes good on that promise next year, this will be about more than just “giving away stock”—it will tie an entire generation’s future directly to a company that represents American technological innovation.

There are certainly business considerations, but commercial motives and social value aren’t mutually exclusive. In the past, many children learned about stocks when their parents told them, “This is an asset.” If they owned a share of SpaceX from a young age, they would get a real sense, perhaps for the first time, that companies, technology, and wealth creation can all have something to do with them.

Even better, this could cultivate a generation of genuine “young shareholders.” They would start taking an interest in rockets, AI, and satellite internet, and come to understand what long-term investing means. It’s more compelling than a one-time cash handout: money gets spent, but an asset could become a finance lesson that lasts for years.

I think the idea’s greatest value may not be how much that one share of SpaceX is worth, but that it turns “letting the next generation share in the benefits of technological progress” into something concrete. If it really comes to fruition, it would be a truly imaginative experiment.
