Why are Ethereum gas fees split into a base fee and a tip?
When you send a transaction, you set a maximum fee and a maximum priority fee. You’re charged the actual “base fee + priority fee,” up to the maximum fee; any difference is not charged.
The base fee is burned rather than paid to the block proposer, preventing them from stuffing blocks with useless transactions to earn higher fees.
Under EIP-1559, the base fee paid for each Ethereum transaction is $ETH , and it is burned directly.
Make sure you understand the rules before taking action—don’t make decisions based on gut feeling.
