The first ETF with built-in yield is here—and NEAR has put 5% on the table
While other ETFs are still begging for access, Bitwise has gone straight ahead and fitted NEAR with a yield engine. It just launched today: the first U.S. spot NEAR ETF, offering 5% staking yield, with on-chain interest reportedly totaling $32 billion. ETFs have been around for more than two years, and they’ve all been selling “upside exposure.” This is the first to put “yield” on the table—the whole approach has changed.
At the same time, I checked in on some other positions: LINK climbed nearly 5% in two days; DOGE is still hovering around the $0.08 level. The old guard has told all the stories it can. Now, capital is looking for one thing: “yield.” That’s what’s moving it toward on-chain projects like NEAR, which still have something new to offer.
This week, the question is whether NEAR can break through the $5 mark. If it holds, that 5% becomes the new model; if not, it’s just another copycat on the shelf. The Dogecoin godfather took the same approach with Dogecoin back in the day: don’t compete for the story—turn your liquidity into your own business. I’m betting on the first outcome. Once this yield pie gets sliced up, nobody will want to walk away.
