I’m skeptical of the claim that shorts are adding to their positions. $Q one-hour open interest rose 14.2%, with position value at about $38.93 million, but over four hours it was up just 4.4%. Nearly all the increase was packed into the most recent hour, which doesn’t look like sustained position-building. The price is 0.1228, down 0.28% over 24 hours; the current price is 0.122193, with another 24-hour reading showing a 0.78% drop. Both declines are modest, yet open interest jumped. If shorts were really pushing the price down, it shouldn’t be sticking this firmly. I’m more inclined to see this as both sides adding notional exposure in a short period; these figures alone don’t pin down the direction.
