China’s National Bureau of Statistics officially released the latest economic data today. GDP grew 4.5% year over year in the third quarter, exceeding both the previous reading of 4.3% and the market consensus of 4.4%. Meanwhile, September’s value added of industrial enterprises above designated size rose 5.5% year over year, total retail sales of consumer goods increased 1.1%, and the surveyed urban unemployment rate edged down to 5.2%. Several key macroeconomic indicators showed signs of stabilizing and recovering.

Despite the modest improvement in the overall data, the underlying details warrant caution. Retail sales beat expectations of 0.6%, but the 1.1% growth rate remains low, indicating that the recovery in domestic consumption is still fragile. Industrial output has become the main pillar supporting the economy, but uncertainty over external demand and the global high-interest-rate environment continue to constrain the prospects for sustainable manufacturing growth.

At the macro level, the slightly better-than-expected data eased, in the short term, the market’s extreme pessimism about a hard landing in the world’s second-largest economy, offering some support to commodities and regional liquidity in Asia. However, the rebound was relatively modest and did not materially change global investors’ defensive stance toward emerging markets and high-risk assets.

For cryptocurrency markets, the short-term resilience of China’s macroeconomic data is unlikely to translate directly into a liquidity boost. With the Federal Reserve maintaining a hawkish stance, global risk aversion remains dominant. Digital assets such as $BTC will continue to face volatility and valuation pressures in the absence of fresh liquidity injections. Investors should avoid positioning too early for a macroeconomic reversal.
