Why stablecoin redemption rules matter A stablecoin may trade near its target while users still need to understand how redemption works. Redemption means exchanging the token through the issuer’s or protocol’s defined process for a specified asset. Access differs by design: some users may redeem directly, while others rely on exchanges or secondary markets. Fees, minimum amounts, eligibility, processing time, and supported jurisdictions may vary.
A market price and a redemption right are not the same thing. If direct redemption is restricted or difficult, users depend more on market liquidity. During stress, thin liquidity or uncertainty about backing can cause the token to trade away from its target.
Read the official terms: who can redeem, what asset is delivered, what fees or delays apply, and what happens if the system faces operational or market stress. Do not assume all holders have identical rights just because they hold the same token.
