In-Depth Analysis of the Ethereum Market: ETF Outflows and Oversold Signals Coexist

October 18, 2026

I. Price Trend Analysis

As of the early hours of October 19 Beijing time, the spot price of Ethereum stood at $2,345.61, down approximately 2.08% over the past 24 hours. On the hourly chart, ETH traded in a narrow range between $2,365 and $2,380 during the Asian and European sessions. After the U.S. session began, it saw a sharp drop, touching a low of $2,329 before recovering slightly and stabilizing near $2,338. Overall, its performance was notably weaker than Bitcoin’s, indicating that Ethereum is currently facing more severe selling pressure.

In its recent price action, Ethereum has fallen below the support of several key moving averages. The 7-period moving average at $2,362, the 25-period moving average at $2,397, and the 99-period moving average at $2,416 are all above the current price, forming successive layers of resistance. The price is trading near the lower Bollinger Band at $2,342, substantially below the middle band at $2,396. Such a rapid decline is often accompanied by short-term oversold conditions, but it also reflects the strength of bearish momentum.

The main reason for Ethereum’s continued weakness is large-scale ETF outflows. Data show that U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs recorded net outflows of approximately $320 million last week. BlackRock’s ETHA fund alone saw $299 million in outflows over the week, accounting for the vast majority. Ongoing ETF redemptions directly reduce buying pressure in the market while fueling anxiety among holders, creating a negative feedback loop.

II. Technical Indicator Analysis

On the 1-hour chart, the MACD indicator shows accelerating bearish momentum. The MACD line is at -17.49, the signal line at -10.62, and the histogram has widened to -6.87, indicating that downward momentum is still unfolding. Compared with Bitcoin, Ethereum’s bearish MACD signal is stronger, reflecting a greater need for a correction.

As for the RSI, RSI6 has fallen to 13.21, RSI12 is at 22.66, and RSI24 is at 31.92. RSI6 has entered deeply oversold territory; historically, readings below 15 have often coincided with short-term rebound triggers. On the KDJ indicator, K is at 12.96, D at 18.79, and J at 1.31. Although all remain at low levels, the J line has started to turn upward, potentially signaling that a short-term oversold rebound is approaching.

The moving averages are in a fully bearish alignment: EMA7 is at 2,362, EMA25 at 2,391, and EMA99 at 2,425, with the price well below all of them. The lower Bollinger Band at 2,342 has been touched, while ATR14 is at 15.86, indicating increased volatility. The Williams %R (WR) is at -90.31, also in deeply oversold territory. Overall, although Ethereum’s short-term technical outlook is bearish, extreme oversold readings across several indicators suggest that the likelihood of a rebound is rising.

III. Market Sentiment Analysis

Market sentiment toward Ethereum is currently rather pessimistic. Persistent, large-scale ETF outflows are the most direct bearish factor, reflecting a lack of confidence among institutional investors in Ethereum’s near-term prospects. The validator exit queue is roughly balanced with deposits, which means more staked ETH could be unlocked and enter circulation in the future, adding pressure on the supply side.

From a fundamental perspective, activity in the Ethereum ecosystem is increasingly migrating to Layer 2. While this lowers costs for users, it also reduces gas fees on the mainnet, weakening the effect of EIP-1559’s burn mechanism and diminishing ETH’s deflationary characteristics. This has had some impact on the confidence of long-term holders.

On the positive side, the RWA market on Solana grew by 600% in one year, from $700 million to $4.3 billion, and the tokenization trend across the broader crypto ecosystem continues to accelerate. Major Wall Street banks, including Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, and Morgan Stanley, are actively expanding into tokenization, while DTCC has officially launched tokenization services supporting 25 asset classes. These developments are positive for the crypto industry as a whole, including the Ethereum ecosystem, over the long term.

Overall, Ethereum remains in a short-term correction channel, with $2,300 serving as a key psychological support level. Given that RSI6 has entered deeply oversold territory, a technical rebound could occur at any time. However, if ETF outflows persist, the rebound may be limited. Investors are advised to watch the strength of support in the $2,300–$2,350 range and monitor changes in ETF fund flows.
