Russia Expands Crypto Regulation as Sberbank Prepares to Launch Crypto Services

Russia is taking further steps to regulate its cryptocurrency market. Sberbank, the countryโ€™s largest bank, is preparing to introduce crypto-related services, potentially allowing customers to access digital assets through regulated financial platforms.

The move comes as Russia plans stricter cryptocurrency rules from July 1, 2027, including restrictions on peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions and the use of self-custodial wallets for crypto transfers.

Under the proposed framework, residents will increasingly be required to use authorized intermediaries, such as licensed brokers and exchanges, for cryptocurrency transactions.

Market Impact: The changes could shift more crypto trading volume toward regulated platforms while reducing access to direct P2P transactions and self-custody options.?
