Faces of Crypto (4): Hal Finney
In January 2009, Bitcoin was released to the world, and almost no one paid attention.
Except one man: Hal Finney, a cryptographer and privacy advocate.
He understood the idea right away and wrote on January 11: “Running bitcoin.” In other words: “I’m running Bitcoin.”
A day later, Satoshi sent him 10 bitcoins. It was the first transaction in Bitcoin’s history.
That same year, Hal developed a serious illness that weakened his body, but he continued working on Bitcoin until he died in 2014.
The first person to believe in an idea can change everything.
