$CYS : 10 million tokens were minted out of thin air through a cross-chain bridge. The most brutal part? The tokens were dumped less than 5 minutes after they were minted—nearly a day before the official announcement.
The Cysic Foundation’s incident report says that at 20:31 Beijing time on 10/17, the attacker gained unauthorized access to the bridge service database, then exploited a flaw in its processing logic to forge mints and create 10 million CYS on BNB Chain. At 21:47, the receiving address was blacklisted, with only around 2.8 million tokens left in it—the other roughly 7.2 million were already gone. The official team says it’s still investigating where they went and how many were sold.
On Binance’s USDT-margined market, the 20:35 five-minute candle plunged from 0.1243 to 0.1013. Trading volume during that hour was about $6.56 million, more than 160 times the average for the previous 12 hours.
Here’s the twist: details weren’t public overnight, but the price recovered instead. At 5 a.m. on 10/18, it touched 0.1325—higher than before the incident. Then, after the report was posted at 18:10, it slowly slid again from around 0.12 to about 0.115 now.
I’m bearish. Those 7.2 million tokens are worth over $800,000 at the current price, while Binance Web3 shows only about $900,000 in liquidity for CYS on BSC. The bridge is still paused, and even before the incident, the token had been steadily declining for almost two weeks from around 0.163 on 10/4. That overnight rebound looks more like dip-buying in an information vacuum than bad news being fully priced in.
What would change my mind is a follow-up report clarifying where those 7.2 million tokens went and how the extra supply will be handled.
