Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin introduced an experimental “paranoid mode” for his AI agent on October 16, 2026. The mode is designed to conceal users’ identities, the origins of requests, and payments. According to BeInCrypto, this publicly available code setup combines Tor, cover traffic, local prompt rewriting, and zkAPI. Each conversation uses a separate Tor circuit, while zkAPI payments are made on Ethereum’s mainnet and accept ETH and USDC. The system does not provide full anonymity: providers can see rewritten prompts, and traffic timing can reveal requests. Buterin said lower zkAPI fees are coming soon; this prototype does not provide evidence of widespread adoption or any immediate benefit to ETH’s price.
