France’s National Assembly passed the 2027 budget amendment by 38 votes to 37, with 25 members abstaining. According to The Defiant, the amendment proposes ending the tax deferral on converting cryptocurrencies into single-currency stablecoins starting January 1, 2027. Investors could be subject to the current flat capital gains tax rate of around 31.4%, even if they do not convert their assets into legal tender.
The amendment was approved only at its first reading in the National Assembly. It still needs to be reviewed by the Senate and go through further legislative procedures before it can become law.
