The charges are set to be dropped, but the tax bill has been recalculated at 48 times the original amount. Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Justice reached a deferred prosecution agreement with Roger Ver. The fraud and tax evasion charges will be dismissed in exchange for his paying up to $49.9 million in taxes, penalties, and interest.

I’m looking at the costs and holdings alongside that figure. In 2011, he bought a large amount of Bitcoin $BTC for less than $3 million. In February 2014, he became a citizen of Saint Kitts and Nevis, and the following month he renounced his U.S. citizenship. At the time, he and his companies held at least 131,000 coins. The IRS found that his personal holdings had not been reported and that company assets had been undervalued. The actual amount being recouped was 48 times the taxes reported and paid that year.

The market hasn’t repriced over this. $BTC is currently at 81424.8 USDT, down 0.13% over 24 hours, barely moving from flat. Up to $49.9 million against a holding of at least 131,000 coins hasn’t budged this level. For now, I’m just watching to see whether 81424.8 gets pulled away from here.
