🚨 JUMP OPENS THE CASINO ON GPU FUTURES

🚨 Jump Trading is set to make markets in computing-power futures. GPU computing power is becoming a standardized contract you can trade, much like crude oil.

1. Jump plans to quote two-way markets in computing-power futures on CME and ICE. The market-making business is the same as ever; the underlying asset has shifted from stocks and bonds to GPU computing power.
2. Established market makers are moving into new assets en masse this week. Virtu has just connected to Ripple Prime’s perpetual contracts for real-world assets, tightening spreads on Treasury and commodity perpetuals.
3. Big money is still adding to its quant positions. Man Group’s assets under management have surged to $270.9 billion, a record high.

My take: Market makers smell the fee revenue before retail traders do. Computing-power futures are currently a wasteland where spreads are wide enough to drive a truck through. Whoever gets in first gets to collect the rent.
What to watch: Trading volume in the first three months of CME’s computing-power futures. If it doesn’t take off, this is just a product launch announcement.

Are you betting that computing-power futures will take off, or die from lack of liquidity?
