Chicago topped the list of travelers’ favorite US cities, based on nearly 800,000 reader votes, according to Bloomberg. Condé Nast Traveler senior features editor Megan Spurrell said destinations including Phnom Penh are also gaining fans.

Spurrell said affordability, food, hospitality and evolving local cultures are helping both familiar destinations and less-traveled cities attract devoted travelers.
