🔥 AI CHIP THIRST: PHONES COULD GET MORE EXPENSIVE

The AI boom is fueling a race for chip supplies — and shoppers buying electronics may have to pay more.

According to the figures cited, chip prices charged to device manufacturers in the U.S. rose about 27% year over year. In June alone, prices climbed 27.6%, surpassing the previous record set in 1980.

🤖 AI data centers are consuming huge amounts of supply, putting pressure on the components market. Notably, memory prices were reported to have surged by as much as 245% in a year.

📱 According to an IDC forecast cited in the report, the average selling price of phones could rise 27.6% to $581 this year. That’s a market-wide average; it doesn’t mean every phone model will see a similar price increase.

The AI race is playing out in data centers, but its costs could reach the phone in everyone’s pocket.
