🚨 Major US companies oppose tokenization of their shares
Nine companies, including CoreWeave, Broadcom, Verizon, and UnitedHealth, have refused to allow trading in tokenized versions of their shares on the OKXICE platform—a joint venture between OKX and ICE, the owner of the New York Stock Exchange.
OKXICE had planned to tokenize shares in 63 companies. Nine—about 14%—objected.
🔹 Reason: concerns about liquidity, volatility, price formation, and investor protection. Applied Optoelectronics has publicly highlighted these risks.
🔹 Nasdaq has also refused to allow its own shares to be tokenized under the SEC’s new rules, although it continues to develop tokenization in other forms.
The SEC’s new mechanism allows companies to prohibit trading in tokenized versions of their shares on a specific platform.
So, the regulator has paved the way for tokenization, but issuers themselves are not yet rushing to agree.
