The short position I had on $ETH is finally back in the green. My hands were shaking when I closed it just now—this market is really wearing me down.
$BTC is hovering around 82,103 right now, up 0.55% over the past 24 hours. It looks pretty steady, but trading volume is only $630 million—volume has dried up completely. This is the worst kind of situation: bulls are afraid to chase, bears are afraid to sell, and everyone’s waiting for a direction. I checked market breadth: only 3 of the 13 major coins are up, or 23.1%. That figure is pretty flimsy—a classic case of the index rising while individual coins fall.
Looking at the biggest losers, ZEC is down 4.45%, $NEAR is down 4.37%, and WLD is down 3.67%. Clearly, money is moving into safe havens and retreating into the majors, but this kind of retreat isn’t healthy.
In the futures market, $BTC ’s long/short ratio is 1.63, while $ETH ’s is as high as 2.89. The short side is frighteningly crowded. Funding rates are still positive, which means the bulls are still hanging on, but that kind of stubbornness can easily end in a sudden collapse.
My personal take is that this price action is the prelude to a “bull trap.” Unless $BTC can convincingly break above 83,000 on rising volume, I’ll assume it’s still trading sideways in the 81,000–82,500 range. If it breaks below 81,000, then ETH’s 2.89 long/short ratio could become a nuclear bomb and send prices straight through the floor. So I just closed part of my short position and kept a small core position to watch what happens. No point getting greedy over the last scraps of this move.
These are the moments that really test your mindset. You see other people making small gains, while your own short position finally gets out of trouble, and you feel conflicted. You’re relieved you didn’t get liquidated, but also regret not holding on longer. What positions are you holding now? Are you willing to ride out tonight’s volatility?
