Lesson 58 of 100 — From My Market Experience
Advanced Orders — How do OCO and trailing stop orders protect you without having to sit in front of the screen?
In our lesson on orders, we talked about market, limit, and stop orders. Today, we’ll cover two tools that save you from having to watch the screen.
1️⃣ OCO order (One Cancels the Other): You place two orders together—a sell order at a target above and a stop below. As soon as one is filled, the other is automatically canceled. That way, your exit plan is in place from the start.
2️⃣ Trailing stop: A stop that follows the price upward at a distance you set—and if the price falls by that distance, it sells. It protects some of your gains without you having to call the top.
Common mistakes:
· Setting the trailing distance too tight: the first normal dip can take you out of a move that’s still going
· Using advanced orders on a low-liquidity coin: execution may be worse than the order price
The tool doesn’t create the plan—it just carries it out. Set your target and stop first, then choose the order.
Bottom line: OCO sets your target and stop in one order, while a trailing stop protects your gains as they grow—and both carry out a plan you’ve already written.
