You can piece together a whole neighborhood’s cast of characters just by looking at your neighbors’ Wi-Fi names.

A quick glance while connecting to Wi-Fi is more entertaining than binge-watching a show 📶:

“TP-Link_8F02” — the practical type; password is probably eight 8s
“Connect if you dare—I’ll cut you off” — not one to mess with; best steer clear
“Baby’s Bedroom” — in the honeymoon phase; do not disturb
“ChinaNet–Xuanwu Lake” — what a lovely name. I’ll remember it for now

But the best one is in our building:
The upstairs neighbor is called “Downstairs, Stop Leeching”
The downstairs neighbor is called “Upstairs, I’m Sorry”
They’ve been arguing through their Wi-Fi names for three years, and neither has changed theirs.

The neighborhood chat is all peaceful and quiet,
while the Wi-Fi list is a battlefield.

The truth is, Wi-Fi names are people’s last outlet for anonymous self-expression these days: everything they don’t dare say to someone’s face is hidden in the signal list.
In an age when people put more thought into naming their Wi-Fi than decorating their homes, the router is the real barometer of neighborly relations.
