Chainalysis said a task scammer lost more than 60 BTC, worth about $4.8 million, in thefts involving Ledger wallets. According to NS3.AI, the scam tricked victims into adding personal funds after a fake negative balance appeared.
The scammer moved the proceeds to three Ledger addresses on September 22, and thieves emptied them on October 9. The Financial Times reported that criminals stole approximately $90 million in digital assets from cryptocurrency wallets last week by tampering with hardware wallets. Ledger said organized criminals installed concealed components in genuine devices to capture recovery phrases during setup.
