Don’t get distracted by a packed calendar next week—the three things that really matter
Next week’s crypto calendar looks busy: exchange changes, project mergers, in-person events, and token unlocks are happening almost every day. But the easiest mistake is to treat every calendar item as a reason to expect prices to rise or fall.
In my view, there are only three things worth prioritizing.
First, on October 19, CME plans to launch BCH and UNI futures, subject to regulatory approval. That doesn’t mean BCH or UNI will rise immediately. What really matters is whether trading volume, open interest, and the basis after launch contribute to sustained price discovery—not just the headline that “institutional products are launching.”
Second, around 23.63 million ZRO tokens are expected to unlock on October 20, equivalent to about 5.9% of the circulating supply. An unlock doesn’t necessarily mean selling, but it does make it important to monitor supply. Rather than trying to predict the direction in advance, watch where the tokens go after the unlock, market depth, and whether sustained selling pressure emerges.
Third, the US flash PMI and University of Michigan consumer sentiment data, due on the evening of October 23. After hotter-than-expected CPI and PPI readings last week, the market will be paying close attention to business costs, price expectations, and consumers’ inflation expectations. If Treasury yields and the dollar remain sensitive to the data, macro pressure could spill over further into risk assets.
As for project events, ecosystem partnerships, and APR unlocks, publicly available information remains inconsistent, so there isn’t enough to use them to define the market outlook. Next week, it’s not about how many headlines there are, but which ones actually change expectations, liquidity, and buying support.
If you see things differently, share your thoughts in the comments.
