Hong Kong IPO fundraising in the first three quarters hit a nearly 15-year record.
PANews, October 18 — According to Zhitong Finance, 115 companies listed on the Hong Kong stock market in the first three quarters of 2026, raising a total of HK$385.566 billion. This exceeded the full-year fundraising total for every year since 2011. Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, Deloitte and KPMG recently said that Hong Kong’s full-year IPO fundraising could approach HK$500 billion.
The hot market has also benefited intermediaries: the three largest underwriters now account for a combined 42% of underwriting volume. However, regulators remain concerned about sponsor firms’ resource constraints and the quality of their work. On October 13, the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong said that resource pressures had eased. This was reflected in the share of pending listing applications handled by the five most active sponsors falling from 77% at the start of the year to 65% in September, while the number of overstretched principal signatories dropped by 78%.

Observation 1: Fundraising has already surpassed the full-year level for every year since 2011. Whether it approaches HK$500 billion for the year will depend on the pace of issuance in the fourth quarter. Observation 2: Pending applications are less concentrated among leading sponsors, easing resource constraints, but the quality of sponsors’ work remains under regulatory scrutiny.
Which matters more to you: fundraising volume or the quality of sponsors’ work?
