🔥 U.S. wholesale inflation surged to 6.3%—are rate cuts still on the table?

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics announced on October 15 that September’s PPI (Producer Price Index) rose 1.3% month over month and 6.3% year over year, both far above market expectations (about 0.5% month over month and 5.3% year over year).

📊 Key figures
• Month over month: +1.3% — the largest monthly increase since March 2022
• Year over year: +6.3% — the highest since December 2022, up from 5.6% in August
• Core PPI (excluding food and energy): +0.7% month over month, +5.0% year over year
• Energy prices jumped about 10.8% in a single month, while gasoline prices rose by more than 20%

⚠️ Why does this matter?
• The previous day’s CPI was already higher than expected, and now PPI has also come in far above forecasts. Inflationary pressure is spreading from energy to other categories.
• Some components of PPI feed into PCE, one of the Fed’s most closely watched inflation measures.
• Expectations for rate cuts are cooling, and markets are even starting to discuss the possibility of rate hikes. The U.S. dollar and Treasury yields are becoming short-term bellwethers for BTC.

📉 What’s next for BTC?
BTC is currently around $81,800 and has traded between $80,000 and $84,000 over the past two weeks.
• Support: $80,400 / $79,800
• Resistance: $83,000 / $84,000
When macro data comes in hot, highly leveraged positions can easily get shaken out in both directions. Managing position size matters more than guessing the direction.
