$AVA The most perplexing thing this week: during the few hours when the good news came out, the price couldn’t hold its gains; when it finally took off, there was no new news to be found.
Let’s go through it in Beijing time:
At 10:18 p.m. on 10/13, Binance’s official account posted about x402—AI agents making payments on BNB Chain and settling through Binance Pay. The first ready-made use case was booking hotels on Travala. Within that hour, AVA surged from 0.222 to 0.304, then gave it all back the following hour, falling to 0.213.
At 3 p.m. on 10/16, Travala released its Q3 report, with several measures aimed squarely at supply: establishing an AVA strategic reserve; doubling the foundation’s buybacks on the secondary market, with a commitment that purchased tokens would never be transferred or sold; and doubling the lockup requirement for new AVA Smart members starting in November, with a long-term goal of locking up 30% of the supply. That evening, after the report came out, the price actually drifted down from 0.285 to 0.274.
Then it didn’t start moving until after midday on 10/17, reaching 0.4227 at 5 a.m. this morning. It’s now around 0.384 on Binance spot, up about 31% over 24 hours, with roughly $11.9 million in trading volume—compared with an average of only about $990,000 a day over the previous ten days.
My take: the first spike was driven by the “Binance AI payments” narrative, which the market digested within an hour. This leg looks more like the market gradually working out the supply math: repurchased tokens are locked up and won’t be sold, the lockup requirement for new members is doubling, and it doesn’t take effect until November. As for why the rally started specifically on 10/17, or who the buyers were, I couldn’t find a clear trigger, so I won’t force a causal explanation.
But volume is up more than tenfold, and after the spike, the price didn’t get knocked straight back down within an hour like it did on 10/13. This is a very different market from the first time around. I’m siding with the bulls: this time, the trade isn’t about a news headline—it’s about supply tightening in earnest starting in November.
