France's National Assembly passed an amendment to the 2027 budget by 38 votes to 37, with 25 abstentions. According to The Defiant, the amendment proposes ending tax deferral for cryptocurrency conversions into single-currency stablecoins starting January 1, 2027. Investors could face capital gains tax at the current flat rate of approximately 31.4%, even if they do not convert their assets into legal tender.

The amendment has passed only the National Assembly's first reading. It still requires Senate review and further legislative procedures before it can become law.
