Nine blockchain organizations jointly launched the Quantum Alliance on Thursday to turn “quantum resistance” from a slogan into a testable standard. The figures cited by the alliance are stark: about 6.04 million BTC, nearly 30% of the total supply, are at quantum risk because their public keys have already been exposed on-chain.

The timeline is tightening. A model cited by the alliance identifies March 2028 as an early window, while research from Google Quantum AI estimates that the number of qubits needed to break Bitcoin could be brought below 500,000. No machine can do this today, but Coinbase has urged developers to start migration now, and a consortium backed by BlackRock, Strategy, and Coinbase has invested $15 million.

The market wasn’t knocked down by this news. Binance Spot BTC was at $81,739.43 at 10:30 Beijing time on 10-18, up 0.29% over 24 hours, with a range of $80,819.66 to $81,897.89; ETH was at $2,413.49, down 0.32%.

Personal view: The quantum narrative is just a short-term sentiment disturbance; prices are still range-bound. A daily BTC close above 82,900 would signal a break from the consolidation since 10-16, with a target of 84,100. A break below 80,800 would prompt a retest of 79,800; losing that level would mean the 10-15 low has been confirmed a second time. For event-driven positions, use 79,800 as a stop-loss reference.
