【Watching AVAX, I’m actually feeling less panicked】
If you’re holding a position, you’ve probably been feeling pretty uncomfortable these past couple of days. AVAX has slid from $ 10 to $ 9.82, down nearly 5% in seven days. The numbers on paper look ugly, but honestly, I don’t think this is what we should be most worried about.
There’s one statistic I’m paying more attention to: it’s down 93% from its all-time high. What does that mean? Pretty much everyone who bought near the peak is deeply underwater. And market sentiment? The FNG Index is at 53—neutral, leaning cool—and even weaker than last week. At a time like this, another drop in price usually doesn’t bring much volume, because those who were going to sell have already sold, and those who were going to sit tight are already doing so.
So what’s actually interesting right now?
Polygon just acquired Coinme and says it wants to enter the payments space. Marc Boiron said they want to “control the customer relationship” and capture the fees that intermediaries like Visa and Stripe have been taking. If this really gets off the ground, the logic is pretty straightforward: users pay with crypto, fees are lower than with traditional payments, transactions are faster, and service providers can earn more. Everyone gets something out of it.
The question is: who can actually make it happen?
People have been talking about tokenization for years. Major banks like Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are looking at it, but it’s still unclear who’ll get the biggest slice of the pie. Polygon has big ambitions to get into payments, but it’s up against giants like Visa and Stripe. You can’t win on hype alone.
I learned one thing back in my e-commerce days: opportunities to make an industry more efficient are real, but more than half the players will die along the way. The same goes for this wave of tokenization. In the end, only a handful will survive and actually make money.
At its current level, AVAX offers a chance to watch and see. Oversold, fundamentals still intact, and someone making moves—whether it’s worth keeping an eye on is for you to decide.
Do you think this can actually become reality? What do you think?
