USDT is coming to Bitcoin, and the roadmap has three steps—not just a slogan.
UniSat and Utexo teamed up and laid out the plan on October 16: First, UniSat Wallet and UniScan will support sending, receiving, and looking up RGB-based USDT. Second, UniHexa will launch USDT trading pairs. Third, they’ll expand into use cases like payments, DeFi, and gaming.
I think the order makes sense. What Bitcoin-native assets (Ordinals, BRC-20, and Runes) have needed most over the years isn’t more trading depth—it’s being able to receive and transfer them easily. Stablecoins can first address payments and settlement, and then people can talk about using them to trade for other assets. That approach can work. If trading pairs come first, but users can’t deposit or withdraw, those pairs are just window dressing.
It’s worth noting that the second step is happening on UniHexa, the trading marketplace in the Fractal ecosystem. In other words, halfway through this stablecoin roadmap, the first rollout will happen on the Fractal side.
One thing to keep in mind: a roadmap is just a roadmap. Whether all three steps happen on schedule is another matter. What counts is whether each step actually goes live—not how polished the announcement looks.
Which types of assets do you think USDT would be most useful for supporting first: the major ones or the long tail?
