China’s embassy in Thailand just warned its own citizens about a criminal industry overwhelmingly built, financed, and run by Chinese nationals.

The October 16 advisory described a clear pattern: fake jobs, investment deals, and filming invitations lure Chinese people to Thailand, after which some are moved toward the Myanmar border and into scam compounds.

These compounds are not primarily outside cartels preying on Chinese tourists. They are largely operated by Chinese criminal networks that recruit in Chinese, on Chinese platforms, and target Chinese victims. Chinese courts have sentenced syndicate leaders to death; Chinese authorities have repatriated thousands of their own nationals from the compounds. Local Myanmar armed groups supply protection for a cut, but the core capital, management, and targeting remain Chinese.

China is warning its citizens about a large-scale criminal economy that Chinese networks largely created and still dominate.
