The mainnet upgrade date hasn’t even been set yet, but the testnet has already floored it at 200 million Gas. On October 26, the Hoodi testnet will face the second major test of the Glamsterdam upgrade.
The Ethereum Foundation announced on October 16 that Glamsterdam will activate on the Hoodi testnet on October 26 at 17:42:48 UTC (October 27 at 01:42 Beijing time), corresponding to epoch 132352 and slot 4235264. At that point, Hoodi’s block gas limit will be raised to 200 million.
This upgrade combines Amsterdam on the execution layer with Gloas on the consensus layer. Its key features are ePBS (enshrining proposer-builder separation directly into the protocol) and block-level access lists (BALs), with the goal of enabling L1 to process more transactions in parallel. Sepolia already completed its first run on October 6. Hoodi is the second round—and a more demanding one for validator environments. Client teams have already started releasing compatible versions, such as ethrex v30.0.0.
Two things to be clear about: First, 200 million is a configuration parameter for the Hoodi testnet. The Foundation explicitly said it does not mean mainnet will use the same figure. Second, no mainnet activation date has been set yet, and ordinary token holders don’t need to do anything.
My take: Don’t chase the upgrade as a bullish catalyst just because it’s activating on a testnet. The Sepolia run already showed that testnet events barely move prices. What’s really worth watching is how smoothly things go on October 26. ePBS and BALs both affect the protocol’s foundations; if something goes wrong on Hoodi, expectations for a Q4 mainnet rollout will have to be pushed back. If it goes smoothly, an official mainnet timeline could be in sight. ETH is hovering around $2,400 right now. In the short term, watch ETF flows; in the long term, it’s all about whether this L1 scaling roadmap can deliver on schedule.
I’ll keep following milestones like this. Follow me to stay up to date. Will you position yourself ahead of the upgrade, or wait until the mainnet schedule is confirmed?
