The day before yesterday, four departments issued a report: the diaper-formamide scare has completely backfired.

They inspected all 168 companies in China, testing 368 batches of samples across 180 brands, plus 32 batches tested by specific diaper components—and not a single batch contained detectable formamide. Retests of 210 blood samples were all negative, too.

Those few who initially claimed they’d detected it: they didn’t run blank samples or parallel tests, deleted the original data, and even withdrew the invalid draft of the most alarming report—the one from Lianxin.

In short: the shoddiest testing created the most expensive anxiety.
