What is a cryptocurrency wallet?
A crypto wallet is software or a device that stores your private keys: the credentials that let you sign transactions and prove you own your assets on the blockchain.
The important thing: your crypto is NOT “inside” the wallet. It lives on the public blockchain. The wallet only manages the access keys.
Main types:
• Hot wallets: apps connected to the internet (MetaMask, Trust Wallet). Convenient, but more exposed.
• Cold wallets: offline physical devices (Ledger, Trezor). Maximum security for holdings.
When you set up a new wallet, you’re given a seed phrase (12–24 words). That phrase IS your complete backup. Lose it = lose access forever. Reveal it = give away your funds.
Remember: in crypto, there’s no “forgot password” option. Decentralization gives you complete control, but also complete responsibility.
