Polygon Labs announced the completion of its acquisition of Coinme, a regulated crypto payments provider, aiming to enter the payments market dominated by Visa and Stripe through stablecoin infrastructure. CEO Marc Boiron said the move would help the company own customer relationships and capture revenue that would otherwise go to intermediaries, transforming Polygon Labs into a payments-focused business that uses blockchain to move money. In January, Polygon Labs launched Open Money Stack, which supports stablecoin payments, cross-border transfers, and foreign exchange fees. Boiron expects the regulated payments business to become profitable in 2027. By comparison, Visa processed more than $12.3 trillion in payments in fiscal 2025, while Stripe processed $1.9 trillion. The acquisition will give Polygon Labs greater control over workflows involving crypto assets, stablecoins, and fiat currency conversion, avoiding the need to refer customers to third parties. Its unified payments platform is still in technical preview and is not yet widely available. Early users include Tazapay, Mesh, Toku, and Kira.
