On October 16, SecuX announced a “major system upgrade and emergency maintenance” for its app. Although it said service had been restored at 15:34 that day, Ripple CTO David "JoelKatz" Schwartz revealed that the Android app subsequently sent out a scam notification that redirected users to a phishing page prompting them to enter their 12- or 24-word recovery phrase. SecuX did not explain the cause of the incident, only reiterating that it would never ask for a recovery phrase. As of October 17, multiple users reported that they still could not access their wallets and that the service remained unavailable. The incident involves a hardware wallet security vulnerability and risks to users’ assets; further official responses and any user data leaks should be monitored.
