. ₿ More than $90 million in cryptocurrency stolen through modified hardware wallets
Update: October 16–17, 2026
Press reports and investigations of blockchain data have uncovered a major theft targeting users of Ledger hardware wallets. Devices sold through a distributor in Southeast Asia are suspected of having been modified with hidden components capable of capturing the secret recovery phrase during wallet setup.
The Financial Times estimated the value of the stolen cryptocurrency at around $90 million, while an independent analysis by Bitquery estimated losses of around $102 million across 335 wallets. These are differing estimates, and Ledger has not announced its own final total. The company said that confirmed cases are linked to devices sold by the distributor in question, and that, according to its investigation, its systems and direct sales channels were not compromised. #Binance #bitcoin
