Anthropic received a BB+ issuer credit rating from KBRA in June, with a stable outlook. This is the highest rating in the speculative-grade category, one notch below investment grade.

The rating applies to about $4.4 billion of subordinated debt in a $35 billion chip financing package. The debt was issued at a yield of about 8.5%, while the senior debt carries an interest rate of 5.75%.

Because Anthropic has disclosed limited information, KBRA did not have metrics such as free cash flow and EBITDA to assess the company. The agency used a “risk score” instead of conducting a full financial-model-based assessment. As of the end of June, the five-year-old company had no debt recorded on its standalone balance sheet.

Wall Street is preparing a new $60 billion debt package, including $18 billion in subordinated debt, to buy custom AI chips jointly developed by Google and Broadcom. Moody’s, S&P, and Fitch will determine Anthropic’s official rating after the company goes public.
