Big news: Circle is about to bring USDC directly to emerging markets 🌏

In an interview with Reuters during the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, CEO Jeremy Allaire revealed that Circle plans to enter around 40 emerging and developing countries (some reports say around 50), focusing on Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa, where demand for “digital dollars” is growing organically.

A few key figures:
🔹 Revenue of around $1.4 billion in the first half of 2026; Q3 earnings are scheduled for November 4
🔹 USDC circulation of around $73.3 billion in Q2, up 19% year over year
🔹 Plans to acquire Singapore payments company Tazapay for $400 million, gaining access to local banks and payment networks in more than 100 markets
🔹 Previously received a $100 million strategic investment from Binance and obtained a U.S. federal banking charter in July

The challenges are real, too: USDC currently accounts for around 25% of the stablecoin market, compared with around 60% for USDT, and Tether already dominates retail channels in emerging markets. Circle’s strategy is to combine “local payment channels + a U.S. compliance charter,” positioning itself ahead of the GENIUS Act taking effect next January.

Do you think USDC can take market share from USDT in Southeast Asia and Latin America?
