I’m seeing another uneven session across crypto, with Bitcoin briefly falling below $80,000 before recovering around $2,000. The rebound is encouraging on the surface, but the repeated rejections near higher levels suggest buyers still have work to do.

The broader market is also losing momentum. Most major altcoins have moved lower again, while some of the stronger recent performers are seeing sharper profit-taking.

Bitcoin’s Recovery Keeps Running Into Resistance

Bitcoin’s recent price action has been defined by quick moves in both directions.

After the sharp selloff on October 9 pushed BTC toward the $80,000 area, buyers managed to stabilize the market and recover toward $83,000 over the weekend. The next attempt toward $84,000 was rejected, sending Bitcoin back toward $81,000.

That pattern repeated through the week. Buyers appeared whenever BTC approached the lower part of the range, but every recovery toward the upper boundary faced renewed selling.

The September CPI report added another layer of pressure after inflation came in slightly above expectations. PPI data released the following day reinforced concerns that inflation may remain persistent.

Then broader risk sentiment deteriorated further as major Asian equity markets experienced sharp declines.

Bitcoin eventually slipped below $80,000, marking a fresh monthly low, but the move was short-lived. It quickly recovered toward $83,000 before another rejection pushed it back to approximately $81,500.

For me, that repeated rejection is more important than the individual intraday moves.

BTC Is Still Caught Between Support and Supply

At around $81,500, Bitcoin is sitting in an uncomfortable middle ground.

The market has demonstrated that buyers are willing to defend the lower levels, but there isn't enough follow-through yet to establish a convincing recovery.

Bitcoin’s market capitalization has fallen to roughly $1.63 trillion, while its dominance has slipped below 60%.

That decline in dominance is worth watching because it suggests that Bitcoin isn't absorbing all of the market’s available liquidity. Some capital is still moving across the altcoin market, although the overall direction remains weak.

Altcoins Are Feeling the Pressure Again

The weakness isn't limited to Bitcoin.

Ethereum is around $2,430, down roughly 1%, while BNB has slipped toward $723. XRP has fallen about 2.4% to approximately $1.31.

Solana, HYPE, DOGE, LINK, XMR and ADA are also trading under pressure.

ZEC has been hit harder, falling more than 5% after failing to sustain its move above the $1,200 area. Given ZEC’s strong recent performance, the rejection looks more like a sharp cooling of momentum than something that can be understood from one candle alone.

Other notable decliners include RAIN, TAO, ZRO, STRK and PYTH, with some registering double-digit losses.

Not every token is following the same path, though. BTW, TIA and LIT have managed to remain positive despite the broader weakness.

Market-Wide Liquidity Remains the Bigger Story

The combined cryptocurrency market capitalization has fallen roughly 1% over the past 24 hours to around $2.74 trillion.

That tells me the current move is broader than Bitcoin simply having a bad session.

Persistent inflation, uncertainty around monetary policy and weakness across global equities are making traders more selective with risk. When that happens, highly volatile assets usually don't get much room for error.

For Bitcoin, the immediate question is whether the repeated defense below $80,000 can eventually produce a sustained recovery, rather than another temporary bounce.

My Takeaway

I’m treating the current market as a range with elevated volatility, not as a confirmed directional move.

Bitcoin has shown resilience by recovering quickly after slipping below $80,000, but repeated rejection around $83,000-$84,000 shows that sellers remain active.

The altcoin market is even more fragile, with several tokens experiencing significantly larger losses than BTC.

For me, the important signals now are simple: whether Bitcoin can reclaim the upper part of its recent range, whether the $80,000 area continues to attract buyers, and whether macro data starts giving risk assets some breathing room.

Until those pieces improve, I’d rather focus on structure and liquidity than chase every rebound. Crypto has already provided enough candles for everyone to develop a nervous twitch.
