Let’s keep helping dreamers make their dreams come true!
FIL’s supply side is undergoing a major change, but whether expectations of reduced supply can actually translate into a rally depends on whether investors buy in.
On October 15, the six-year vesting period for early allocations of Filecoin to Protocol Labs and the Filecoin Foundation came to an end. Annual new FIL supply is expected to fall from about 88 million tokens to about 22 million, a decrease of roughly 75%. This is not a direct halving of block rewards, but the end of a major source of early-token unlocks.
Slower supply growth could theoretically ease selling pressure from new tokens, but it doesn’t mean the amount of FIL on the market will immediately shrink. Miner rewards are still being issued, and unlocked tokens may still be sold.
In my view, whether FIL can sustain a rally from here hinges on three things: whether the news of reduced supply has already been priced in, whether capital continues to flow in, and whether real demand for Filecoin storage grows.
If supply-side changes aren’t accompanied by demand and buying pressure, the price could still spike and then fall back.
Do you think this contraction in FIL supply will be a catalyst for a medium- to long-term rally, or will the price return to fundamentals after short-term speculation?
