The 2026 World Energy Storage Conference opened on October 15 in Ningde, Fujian. In his address, Xin Guojun, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, said that China’s new energy storage industry had made significant progress. Going forward, China will coordinate development and safety, strengthen technological innovation, let demand drive growth, build a global ecosystem, resolutely guard against “involutionary” competition, and steer the industry away from expansion in scale toward innovation-led growth. Data show that in the first half of 2026, energy storage battery output exceeded 420 GWh, up 110% year on year. By the end of June 2026, cumulative installed capacity of new energy storage exceeded 153 million kilowatts—50 times the level at the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan period. Earlier, in April this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and three other government departments held a symposium on the power and energy storage battery industries, emphasizing the need to resolutely oppose unreasonable and unfair competition.
