CoinGecko released its weekly trending list for October 10–16 on October 16, with Aerodrome Finance ($AERO ) ranking first and a market cap of about $960 million based on its methodology.
Interestingly, the coin at the top of the trending list hasn’t seen its price keep pace. On October 17, $AERO was trading at around $0.88, down about 4% to 5% over 24 hours, with its market cap slipping to around $890 million. It was up about 10% over 7 days and about 60% over 30 days—the expected October 21 launch of Aero on seven chains accounted for much of its gains over the past month.
Background: Aero, the unified protocol formed by the merger of Aerodrome and Velodrome, is scheduled to launch simultaneously on October 21 across seven chains: Base, Ethereum mainnet, OP Mainnet, Arc, Ink, Robinhood Chain, and Arbitrum (announced on September 25 and reported by several outlets, including CryptoBriefing and Stocktwits). The two predecessor protocols together account for about 17% of EVM spot trading volume, and the team says its goal after the merger is to triple that share. On September 25, the day the merger was announced, $AERO gained more than 20% in a single day.
Bottom line: The trending list measures search interest, not price gains. A substantial portion of the 30-day gain of 60% has already priced in expectations for October 21. Interest leads, price lags—four days from now, we’ll see whether launch day brings a payoff or whether expectations have run ahead of reality.
This is not investment advice.
