Since the beginning of this year, the delisting of underperforming Hong Kong-listed companies has accelerated. Wind data show that, as of October 15, 36 Hong Kong-listed companies had completed delisting during the year, 25 of them compulsorily delisted by HKEX; several other companies have also received approval from the Listing Committee for delisting. Compared with the same period in 2025, the pace of delisting among companies that have been suspended for a long time has clearly accelerated. Market participants interviewed say that speeding up the removal of poor-quality entities can help improve the quality of the Hong Kong stock market and enhance liquidity. However, delisting is not simply a matter of removing a company from the exchange: improvements are still needed to shorten suspension periods and safeguard small and medium-sized investors’ access to information and avenues for seeking redress.
