Don’t let this afternoon’s news about “AI cracking passwords” scare you.
CoinDesk reported today that AI traced the origins of the public parameters for some older cryptographic curves. It didn’t calculate everyone’s wallet private keys, and the curve used by Bitcoin wasn’t part of the research either.
I think this is interesting: the same thing described as “cracking” can mean a research breakthrough or stolen assets—those are two completely different things. When you see a frightening headline, first figure out what actually happened, then decide whether to adjust your holdings. Don’t mistake the volume of the news for the size of the risk.
