AI untangles an old cryptography mystery—but that doesn’t mean Bitcoin has been cracked.
According to an Oct. 17 report by CoinDesk, an Anthropic model traced how some of NIST’s elliptic-curve public seeds were generated. Bitcoin uses secp256k1, not one of the curves investigated.
My take: This is progress in making cryptographic parameters auditable—not a compromise of wallet private keys, and certainly not a direct signal of BTC’s short-term price movements. Quantum computing is a separate, long-term risk and shouldn’t be conflated with this news. When you see “AI cracks cryptography,” first ask: Was it the source of public parameters, or private keys, that was cracked?
